What Is The Root Cause of Change Resistance?

The internet is full of articles explaining reasons of change resistance. There are various books written on this topic too. The Change Manager’s Handbook extensively covers this topic in detail.

However, what is the root cause of resistance to change? Why in the context of organisational change, employees and managers prefers the status quo instead of embracing the change?

I have tried to analyse this, and various reasons allude to the one cause – fear & anxiety. That is why we often opt for the status quo.

I have tried to elaborate this with the help of the following example:

As we know the root cause, it makes it easier for us to manage the change.
