Final decision about enterprise software procurement!

Project Sponsorship

If I am asked to make a final decision about enterprise software procurement, here is what I will ask of the selection panel:

  • Consider a selection of enterprise software as a project.
  • Appoint a project manager.
  • Seek outside help (a consultant) to facilitate the selection process.
  • Ask for the selection approach, plan, budget, stakeholder’s list, resource requirements, and other deliverables for this project.
  • I will ask for the template of the final report along with examples of recommendations and risks upfront to ensure the outcome meets my expectations.
  • Ask for endorsement of the final report from all the key stakeholders.
  • Engage legal, product specialists, and commercial negotiators to review contracts and Statement of Work.

Yes, it may sound too much and overkill. I will take all the above steps if I am spending my own money. I am not making things difficult, but doing so because I care.
