Often, we inherit work from others. The work can be a job, an initiative, a deliverable, or a project. We may inherit it from our competitors or associates, or they may be unknown. As each of us can have unique perspectives, methods, and operating models, we often find issues in the work undertaken by our predecessors.
Here, we have a choice to make. We can focus our energy on making them look bad, so we are perceived to be brighter, relatively. Alternatively, we identify specific roadblocks ahead of us that will hamper progress towards our goal.
Our job is not to teach them (our predecessors) lessons. Instead, it is to complete our mandate within the set constraints. We will likely be much better off focusing on our set mandate to serve.
