When I leave my car to get fixed, there are three possibilities:
I may be lucky to get a value-add mechanic who fixes my car on time and charges nominally.
I may get stuck with a lazy mechanic who delays the delivery of the car and asks me to pay for his laziness.
I may be unlucky to get a genius work-creator who complicates everything, follows unnecessary procedures, and creates more work for himself and others. I may end up paying a huge bill, with no guarantee that the car is fixed and a high probability of more problems in the future.
In business, the genius work-creators are not far from us. They look earnest and busy. Our job is to spot them and help them channel their energy to value-add activities. Otherwise, we may feel that we are putting in a lot of energy but not getting anywhere.
