Why is it Too Hard to Fight Against the Status quo?

Home

Digital Transformation initiatives are challenging. We often find it too hard to fight against the Status quo.

In the transformation game, various players play to win over the Status quo. However, the current state of the business often gives adamant resistance to the Project team.

We know that bringing about change in business is challenging. However, that is not the only problem. The other problem is that all players (Leadership team, Customer Project Team, Vendor Project Team(s), End users, etc.) are not often aligned to fight together against the Status quo.

Each player has their own strengths, weaknesses, expectations, motivations, and priorities. As change facilitators and leaders, we must understand and align these variables for the expected outcome.

For example, suppose you are implementing a commercial off-the-shelf product. In that case, you must understand the vendor’s key expectations, motivations, and priorities. Is it increasing revenue by selling more software licenses and services? Are they focused on delivering a great solution so that they can request a referral?

Similarly, as customers driving the change initiatives, we must understand each player in the game closely. Understand their fundamental motivations and expectations. Then, use their strengths and work together to win against the Status quo!
