Customer: I want to jump out of the window!
Consultant: No problem, this is the easy requirement. Let me unlock and open the window for you…..
I don’t know who told the consulting community that the customer is always right!
First, a consultant’s job is to ask intelligent questions, not take orders. Secondly, a consultant should never ask for requirements. Instead uncover problems by observing, enquiring, analyzing and investigating processes.
Unfortunately, there is little hope that this paradigm (of asking requirements) will shift anytime soon. So, as a Sponsor, be careful that Consultants are not asking for requirements in your project. Otherwise, you may see your people jumping out of the window without much notice!
