Social norms appears to support us!

Leadership

The pressure of what others think of me often seems unnecessary. My default response is often, ‘So why should I bother?’ This mindset gives me the freedom to do what I think is right without worrying about impressing others.

On the surface, this approach makes sense. However, society offers a free service to keep me in check. I just have to make sure I comply. By adhering to societal norms, I dress appropriately, behave well, do honourable things, demonstrate human values, socialise, and earn an honest living.

Complying with social norms appears to support us as individuals. Blind rebellion against them is likely to cause self-harm.
