Breaking the Mold: Why Versatility is Key to Effective Leadership

Leadership

As humans, we tend to label and categorise individuals into distinct groups. This makes it easier for us to make comments and judgments about them. One such label is “leadership style”, which includes categories such as Servant leadership, Participative leadership, and Authoritative leadership. It is common for people to ask, “What is your leadership style?”

While we may have a preference for one leadership style over others, a true leader knows how to adapt their style based on the overall objective, environment, problems, and constraints. They use different styles as tools rather than personal traits. This is a significant difference between a true leader and someone who simply identifies with a particular style.

It is valuable to challenge ourselves to learn different leadership styles and transition from one style to another to ensure win-win interactions.

To summarise, versatility is key to effective leadership.
