Who are we seeking solutions from?

Leadership

If I have a headache and go to:
the doctor — he may prescribe some tests and give me a painkiller.
the meditator — they may ask me to do deep breathing.
the chiropractor — might crack my spine.
the physio — could offer a neck massage.

Each is trying to help, but only through their own lens. Their solutions are shaped by what they know and the tools they have.

The same happens in organisations. When ERP implementations or IT projects keep failing, going back to the IT department for answers often leads to the same cycle. They’ll apply the same methods, frameworks, and skills that caused the problem in the first place.

As executives, we must step back and ask: Who are we seeking solutions from — and what perspective, tools, and experience do they bring?
Clarity about that choice determines whether we keep treating symptoms or finally solve the root cause.
