Breaks are powerful!

Leadership

Breaks are powerful because they interrupt our routine. They give us a chance to experience something different, to switch off, or to pause for self-reflection.

Breaks can be short or long, relaxing or busy, interesting or even boring—but the one thing they all have in common is this: they pull us out of the grind. In that space, we get a rare chance to be self-aware, to reflect, and to ask ourselves questions we usually ignore in the rush of life.

The problem comes when breaks become the goal of our work. We grind day after day just to accumulate enough money to take a holiday. Or we use breaks only to drown ourselves in distraction in the name of fun. Or worse, we have valuable insights during a break—questions, habits to change, new ways to live—only to return and fall straight back into the same old grind. Nothing truly changes.

A break should be like a mirror—it reflects what we often don’t see in our busy days. If we don’t use that reflection well, it becomes just another blurred moment in time.

What did your last break show you about yourself—and what will you do differently when you return to the grind?
