What is Your Plan if Someone Attacks Your Organisation’s Most Important Asset?
We might have different opinions on what the most valuable asset in your organisation is. It’s unlikely to be physical assets, human resources, or office spaces—insurance can usually cover those damages. The asset that can truly bring any business to its knees is data.
Imagine a hacker gaining access to your contact list and sending malicious emails from an employee’s account. Or worse, stealing your employees’ private information. What if they locked your systems and prevented your team from accessing critical tools?
This is what we call a cyberattack. It’s not something limited to large corporations—small and medium businesses are targeted every day. Unfortunately, many of these incidents go unnoticed by the broader public. If you think, “No one would bother attacking us,” that’s a dangerous assumption.
Instead, we need to ask ourselves:
- How could attackers potentially hack our systems?
- Which information is most sensitive and needs the highest level of protection?
- What mechanisms do we have in place to prevent and detect breaches?
- And most importantly, what is our response plan if we experience a cyberattack?
Every organisation must have a well-defined, actionable plan in place—not just to react but to prevent. Cybersecurity is no longer optional; it’s essential.
