Even employees who rise quickly through the ranks aren’t always the most loyal or hardworking.
Success depends on many variables aligning in an uncertain dance—timing, need, desirability, cost appetite, associations, network effects, and environment, to name a few.
From the delivery side, we can influence only a few of these—like quality, innovation, and marketing. The rest often lie beyond our control. The game we play is full of randomness, and sometimes no rational explanation can capture why things unfold as they do.
Our best strategy, then, is to keep enough resources—financial and psychological—to stay in the game, keep learning, and keep evolving. Success is never guaranteed, but since we’ve chosen to play, we might as well play with full heart and soul—giving our best, maintaining balance, and freeing ourselves from the burden of expectation.
This turns the game from a chase for outcomes into a dance with uncertainty.
