Everything of value comes with a cost. The cost may not appear upfront, but it always finds its way to be paid — that’s simply how nature operates. The wise don’t try to escape the cost; they aim to understand it early and pay it consciously.
Consider a few examples.
If I neglect my health and give in to laziness, I’ll pay later through medical bills and stress. If I remain ignorant in business, I’ll pay in lost opportunities and avoidable mistakes. The price is always being paid — just often on terms I don’t control.
The same truth applies to ERP implementation projects. We end up paying the price when we:
- Fill the project team with whoever’s available instead of those who are capable.
- Rush delivery because leadership delayed the decision for too long.
- Choose the wrong ERP product due to poor diligence.
- Fail to educate ourselves and our leadership about what ERP really entails.
- Treat it as a tech project while ignoring business ownership and change management.
We may think we’re being smart by cutting corners or “winging it,” but nature keeps its own accounting. Whether through our decisions, our timing, or our roles — the bill eventually arrives.
The price is always paid — the only question is when and by whom.
