Fast and far!

Leadership

According to the African proverb, “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.”
At first glance, it sounds complete. But it is not.

I can go fast and far alone.
Not because collaboration lacks value, but because misalignment has a cost. Alone, I am not carrying the weight of unclear expectations, diluted ownership, or hidden agendas. I know what I want, why I want it, and how to move towards it. I engage others intentionally, use leverage wisely, and keep momentum intact. If I have clarity, courage, and discipline—and the game allows solo play—I do not need numbers for progress.

I can also go fast and far together.
But only when together actually means something. When strengths and weaknesses are understood, not tolerated. When collaboration feels less like coordination and more like a symphony—different instruments, one direction. Speed comes from planning, transparency, and trust. Distance comes from ownership, decisiveness, and loyalty to the mission over individual ego.

So the decision to go alone or together should not be framed as fast versus far.
It should be framed as clarity versus confusion. Clarity about ourselves. Clarity about the mission. Clarity about the nature of the game being played.

If we choose to play a team sport, then we must truly be a team—not just present, not just aligned on paper, but united in intent.

Going together without alignment is slower than going alone.
Going alone without clarity is movement without meaning.

Progress is not about numbers.
It is about direction—and the honesty to choose the right way to move.
