Customers often ask how long it takes to transform the organisation. So, we have all these projects; how long would it take us to deliver?
The truth is that no one knows precisely. Anyone can make a rough guess with a ton of assumptions. Further, any estimates require additional effort and cost. We can choose to spend money estimating hypothetical scenarios. But what value is it going to add?
I understand that we all want to see the end of an initiative. So, how about we declare the end date of the transformation? With the end date in mind, the project team can work backwards to deliver maximum value to the business.
This approach will give a certainty of end date and practicality of dealing with too many unknowns.
