Individualism

Leadership

Family, community, organisation, tribe, nation—these are human constructs that give us meaning, structure, and shared direction.
They align us to coordinate and play a common game. They keep us engaged, create stability, and carry values across generations.

For millions of years, these structures have propelled civilisation forward.

But look deeper—these structures are not designed to maximise individual happiness.
They exist to organise, sustain, protect, and pass forward what we build.

Now, there is a quiet force weakening them: individualism.

Individualism centres on personal happiness.
In that pursuit, we consume more, sacrifice less, and constantly ask: What’s in this for me?

And slowly, without noise, the structures begin to weaken.
Families lose cohesion. Organisations lose alignment. Communities lose identity.

Not because they are attacked—
but because they are no longer prioritised.

So, what can we do?

First, recognise the pattern. Awareness is the starting point.
Second, anchor our associations in a compelling vision—something larger than individual gain.
Third, lead through action, not words. No speeches—just example.

And above all, accept this: individualism is not an exception—it is the default of our time.

The real question is not whether it exists—
but whether we are willing to sacrifice enough to hold something together.
