Influence and control!

Leadership

There is a clear distinction between influence and control. Influence stems from who we genuinely are, while control arises from who we want others to become. Influencing others is liberating—it allows us to have a positive impact effortlessly. In contrast, controlling others is constraining, as it demands our time, energy, and resources.

In leadership, both influence and control have their place, but understanding their differences and consciously minimising control can be remarkably freeing.

Yet, it’s all too easy to default to control, entangling ourselves in the process.
