Measuring the wrong things!

Leadership

Maybe we’re measuring the wrong things when making our most important decisions.

For instance:

We often define success by material wealth rather than genuine joy.

Entrance exams for medical and engineering schools focus on academic scores, while ignoring psychometric qualities like empathy, resilience, or problem-solving under pressure.

We talk about sustainability by inventing new ways to produce and recycle — but rarely stop to ask if we need all this stuff in the first place.

Likewise, we limit the idea of Return on Investment to just financial gain. But what about returns in the form of increased trust, safety, comfort, or meaningful experiences — for our customers, employees, and communities?

We’re conditioned to run the same race with our eyes shut — chasing success, status, and speed — without ever stopping to ask: Why this race? Who set the rules?
By the time we start to question it, we’re often too deep in it to turn around — sprinting toward a finish line that never really mattered.
