Not to avoid pain or discomfort!

Decision making

If we want to live a life with intent, it is more practical to make clear decisions and follow them relentlessly. Many times, we get distracted by shiny objects and tempting opportunities. Only later do we realise that many of them were traps—quietly draining our time, energy, and attention.

In practice, it is often wiser to decide once and stop negotiating. Fewer decisions, followed through consistently, conserve mental and emotional energy that can be directed towards things that truly matter.

For example:

  • If I decide to buy only two pairs of jeans each year and donate the old ones, I no longer waste energy chasing deals or comparing options.
  • If I decide to serve only local governments and not-for-profits, I can confidently say no to every new “shiny” opportunity and focus deeply on meaningful work.
  • If I decide to stop consuming sugar, I stop debating with myself and use that energy to live a healthier life.

The key is not to avoid pain or discomfort, but to choose it deliberately. Make wise decisions, commit to them fully, and stay with them—regardless of short-term temptation or noise.
