Our problems feel unique

Project Sponsorship

When we are stuck, our problems feel unique. We don’t know where to go. We try random things, they fail, and over time we feel helpless and fatigued because there is no clear direction.

Often, our problems are not unique at all. We simply haven’t experienced them before. The problems are rarely too complex; it is our lack of experience or maturity in that moment that makes them feel overwhelming.

The reality is that many people go through very similar challenges as part of their growth journey. We are just unaware of this fact. This applies equally to personal struggles and business challenges.

Brute force is tempting. It feels like action. But brute force rarely takes us anywhere meaningful.

Even when a problem looks mammoth, the solution is usually within reach. It is often simple to understand, yet difficult to implement consistently.

What tends to work is surprisingly straightforward:

  • Find someone who has helped others through the same kind of problem
  • Explain your situation honestly and listen with an open mind
  • Implement the guidance fully, then iterate with commitment

When we are stuck, we have two choices. We can keep pushing with brute force and exhaust ourselves. Or we can follow someone who has already solved a similar problem.

That person could be an advisor, consultant, friend, parent, or teacher. The approach works only when we drop our defensiveness, stay open, and commit fully to changing our situation.
