When I take pride in owning material possessions, there is always a risk that my possessions will start to own me.
For instance, when I am too conscious about protecting my luxury watch from scratching, I am worried about its depreciating value or the cost of its next service. In that case, my watch is likely to start possessing me.
The same is true for other material possessions, too.
When I close my eyes (not being self-aware), I often find myself being possessed by my own possessions.
