One of the key reasons ERP implementation issues take too long to resolve is the constant game of ping pong between the client and the vendor.
Here’s how it plays out:
A client resource raises an issue. The ERP consultant—often already overloaded—responds with a request for more information. While the client scrambles to gather and provide that information, the consultant turns to other “burning issues” for other clients. This cycle continues. Each side tries to return the ball quickly just to get it off their plate.
The result?
The issue stays open. Work-in-progress piles up. On the surface, it looks like things are moving—but in reality, it’s just waste.
As an executive, you need to see this clearly and intervene. Set expectations. Create accountability. And break the cycle.
