Are you optimally utilising the most underutilised resource?

Leadership

Human potential is the most underutilised resource. The existing structure of the division of labour makes it even worse. In the workforce, everyone is bound to have a job profile. The expectation is for the employees to operate within the parameters of their job profile.

The management measure competency by the number of years of experience, formal education, or industry certifications. We delegate work based on job role, position, and experience, but not the possibility of what the given employee can achieve. We train new employees to adapt to the current business practices.

In summary, we are pushing young talent to do things the old way (existing process)

We seldom throw committed employees at the deep end to solve a problem or run a project with a clear objective.

The question we should ask ourselves is – Are you optimally utilising the most underutilised resource (the human potential)?
