No methodology is fit for every project. The standard methodology is the starting point. The Project Managers (PM) should consider the project’s needs, stakeholders, problems, constraints, priorities and many other factors to tailor the standard methodology.
If you observe that your PM is rigid, then remind them that the last chapter of every Project Management framework and methodology is ‘tailoring’. This chapter is there for a purpose.
The Project methodology should support your initiative and must be relevant. It does not matter if the methodology is popular, trendy or developed by a big consulting firm. What matters is that it should be relevant to your initiative.
So, don’t get the Project Managers to slap every project with the same methodology!
